Angela Louise Bryant Byrd, 88 of Mobile, went peacefully to heaven on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born in Bayou La Batre, Alabama into the family of Robert Lee Bryant and Myrtle Kryger Bryant. She spent many happy and carefree days living on the Bayou with her siblings; George Edward, Bobby, Johnny, Mary “Tootsie” and Myrtle Ann.
Angela graduated from Alba High School in 1948. She continued her education, by moving to Mobile and attending the City Hospital School of Nursing. She started her lengthy nursing career at City Hospital in the ED, later moving to the OR. She was a passionate nurse dedicated to her profession, a mentor to many just starting out. She remained at the hospital through its many name changes, retiring after 40 years of service on June 29, 1992 from the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
Angela was married to Elbert Shaw “Buddy” Byrd from September 28, 1956 until his death October 16, 1993. Their union produced four children.
Angela was preceded in death by her husband Buddy; son John Harlow Byrd and grand- son Colin “Cole” Anthony Morehead. She is survived by daughters; Karen (Ruben) Miller and Angie (Dave) Morehead, son Everett Shaw Byrd, grand-children; Marissa (Paul ) Peevy, Tyler (Carmen) Morehead and Ryan Miller, great grand-children; Cole Peevy, Ellis Morehead and Isabella Peevy, sister Myrtle Ann Seaman, aunt Berniece Bosarge, brother in law Cecil (Beverly)Byrd and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Throughout her life Angela always loved being outside, whether at the beach looking for tiny shells or in the back yard watching the birds and squirrels.
A visitation for Angela will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday April 5, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36606. A funeral service will occur Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will occur follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Bayou La Batre, Alabama. Service will be officiated by her friend, J. P. Lambert.
