Anne Dowdy Kelley, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 21, 2021 in Bay Minette, Alabama. She was born to John and Olivia Dowdy in Moss Point, Mississippi on August 2, 1935. Anne was raised in a loving home, where her parents encouraged a strong walk in Christ, strength in character, respectfulness, and trust – all attributes she would later instill in her own family. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Theodore for over fifty years. Anne taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Methodist Youth Fellowship, and was a member of the MUW and Chancel Choir. She eventually moved her membership to the First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette, where she continued to grow her strong faith in Christ.
Anne was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised her family to have strong values and to love the Lord. Outside of her faith, Anne enjoyed gardening and outdoor activities – especially anything to do with water. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. Anne was a baseball fan, and would always make sure she watched the World Series. She was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for many years before, in true Anne fashion, she moved home to take care of her mother.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bruce Horton, Sr.; one son, Harold “Hal” Bruce Horton, Jr.; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Horton Underwood (Don); granddaughter, Darla Hanna Mims; grandson, John Mark Hanna, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Emma Olivia Mims; a brother, Levi “Jack” Jackson Dowdy (Doris); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Anne will be on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, with a graveside service in Pine Crest Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Theodore, or the First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette.
