

We are truly heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved sister Carolyn Nelson. She passed away quietly at Thomas Hospital on Thursday April 2, 2026 at the age of 80. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity and unforgettable memories. She was so loved and respected for the strength she demonstrated everyday as she battled a challenging illness while never uttering a complaint. Instead, she was the voice of encouragement, concern, and care for those around her. She showered love on her nieces and nephews and was a wonderful friend, advisor, and confident for her sisters who adored her. God gives us special people in our life and we are so grateful that he gave her to us.
Carolyn devoted her life to her career in nursing during which time she was loved and respected by all who knew her. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a masters degree in nursing as a Critical Care Specialist. She had a long and impressive resume during her career at Providence Hospital where she served as a Director. Her Accomplishments and affiliations include her roles as adjunct faculty at the University of South Alabama, Preceptor at both University of South Alabama and Mobile College, Consultant for the Alabama State Board of Nursing and the National Critical Care Teaching Institute, and many more.
Carolyn was the daughter of Thomas and Evelyn Nelson (deceased). Carolyn’s survivors include her two sisters Deborah Thompson (D.D.), Sylvia Nelson, her brother Thomas Nelson Jr. (Carolyn), Nieces and Nephews Blakely Clark (Michael), Erin Calametti (Kyle), Cynthia Nelson, Andrea Lowry (Bob), Jason Thompson, Steven Nelson, Great nieces and nephews Lila Clark, Edie Clark, Mary Evelyn Calametti, Cullen Calametti, Holland Calametti, Nelson Thompson, Brock Thompson, Austin Thompson, Lindsay Nadobny (Adam), Abigail Lowry, and Brooke Lawson (Adam).
Her funeral will be a graveside ceremony with family and those friends who wish to attend at Pine Crest Cemetery on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11 a.m.
