Cecil Ray Hughes Jr.

Ray was born in Mobile and was a graduate of the University of South Alabama. In 1973, he married Patricia McNiff, with whom he shared more than five decades of devotion and family life.

Ray is survived by his wife, Patricia “Patti”; his son, David Hughes, and daughter-in-law, Melissa; his daughter, Carolyn Owens, and son-in-law, Matthew; and his niece Ashley Ouellette. He was a proud grandfather to Charlotte and Alexander Hughes, and to Kyra, Taylen, and Liam Owens.

Ray built a long and successful career in industrial sales. He was widely respected for his integrity and remarkable ability to connect with people.

Ray was dedicated to serving others and gave generously of his time through the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry, offering support to individuals and families in need throughout the community.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, and watching Alabama football. Known for his warm personality, humor, storytelling, and joy for life, Ray lived each day to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Friday, December 19, at 10:00am at St. Edmund by the Sea Catholic Church in Dauphin Island, Alabama.

The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Ray’s memory.
