
Mr. McFarland was a veteran having served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as both a pilot, flying "the Hump" and a flight instructor. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in the China/Burma/India theatre of war. He was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and had a successful career as a ceramic engineer with U. S. Steel Company and other firms related to the American steel industry. He retired in 1984 as Vice-President of Sales for International Refractory Co. of Johnstown, PA and after a few years in Texas, returned to Montrose, AL in 1990. Mr. McFarland was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Daphne.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Townsend McFarland, his son Donald H. McFarland and wife Claudia of Wilmington, DE; son Rev. Arnold T. McFarland and wife Dale of Johnstown, PA; daughter Priscilla M. Cure and husband Michael of Spanish Fort, AL as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, AL.
