
Dr. David Meredith Mullins, MD, died at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, AL on April 13, 2012, after a brief illness. Born November 29, 1925, in Atlanta, GA, to Clyde Vernon Mullins and Helen Saunders Mullins, he grew up in Nashville, TN, where he later graduated from Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt Medical School. Interning at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, he met and married Marilyn Ann Miller. Upon graduation, he served as Captain in the U.S.A.F., and began his pediatric practice in San Bernardino, CA in the 1950’s. He and Marilyn settled in Mobile, AL in 1957. He later was senior partner of the Mobile Children’s Medical Associates, PA. After retiring from pediatrics, he practiced for several years at Searcy Hospital in Mount Vernon, AL.
Among his many interests were golf and sailing, the Mobile Symphony (past President), Mobile Civitan Club (past President), Mobile County Medical Association, and the Mobile Infirmary Board. He had been a member of the St. Francis Street Methodist Church, Mobile Country Club, Harlequins, Mobile Fun Club, and Mississippi Seniors Golf Association.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Ann Miller Mullins, son David M. Mullins, Jr. (Julie) of Foley, daughter Claudia Mullins Carroll (J. Patrick) of Opelika, sister Caroline Mullins Head of Birmingham, grandchildren Kelly McDougle of Florence, Erin Blevins of Decatur, David M. Mullins, III of Foley, and J. Alexander Mullins of Foley, and great-grandson Joshua McDougle of Florence, nieces Lesley Ransom (Bill) of Atlanta, GA, DeDe Pittman (David) of Birmingham, AL, and nephew J.A. Head, III of Birmingham, AL.
A memorial service will be held on May 5, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the Mobile Infirmary Foundation, P O Box 2226, Mobile, AL 36652.
