

Dempsey Leo Lee
May 10, 1932- March 28, 2014
Dempsey L. Lee, a husband, father, friend, disabled veteran, Mason, Shriner and caregiver of crippled children departed this life on Friday, March 28, 2014 at a local hospital after a prolonged illness. He was the teller of the occasionally poor joke, a master farmer and mechanic, avid beekeeper and a lover of people. This world will miss his humor, devotion, dedication and generosity.
Dempsey was born on May 10, 1932 in Grove Hill, AL and graduated from Baker High school. He joined the navy and saw active duty during the Korean War, and later traveled to several postings in the Civil Service of the U S Air Force. His post service record includes working for the GM&O railroad, and the State of Alabama Job service where he retired. He earned a B.A degree of General Studies from Springhill college. He was one of the charter members and past master of the George Potter Masonic lodge and was an active member of the Masonic lodge of Semmes. He also served as potentate of the Abba Temple Shrine of Mobile. He was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Semmes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dempsey M, and Lena Gates, numerous brothers and sisters, and late wife Elsie LeGear.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Evans, brother, Zack Lee of Willow, AK, three children, Leonard Lee of Sugar Land, TX, Cynthia Turbyfill of Mobile, Amy Lee of Mobile, three grandchildren, Jared Lee of Sugar land, TX, Melissa and Keith Turbyfill of Mobile.
A Masonic graveside ceremony will be held at noon, on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Mobile Memorial Gardens. The service will be hosted by a gathering of his Masonic brethren from across Mobile County. Honorary pall bearers will be Joe Bray of Theodore, Jared Lee of Sugar Land, Mark Marshall of Mobile and David Boyd (posthumous) of Dawes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials, be made to the Abba Temple Shrine Cripple Children's Transportation Fund - an organization that he felt extremely passionate about.
