The youngest of four siblings, Dennis was born on June 29, 1939 to Lee Roy and Mamie Bethea Lindsey in Montgomery, Ala. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his return, he married Ann Kelley in 1961, and the two moved to Mobile, where he began his career in sales at Oppenheimer Corporation. In 1971, he founded Delco Sales, earning numerous awards as he represented building supply companies, including Salesman of the Year for Owens/Corning Fiberglass, Leslie Locke, Dixie-Pacific, Fibrecem, Malco, and many others, until his retirement in February 2023. In addition to these achievements, he was an established philanthropist, serving as Vice Crusade Chairman of the American Cancer Society’s Alabama Division and appointed to the University of Alabama’s Commerce Executive Society.
The strong work ethic that defined Dennis’ legacy was outmatched only by his compassion and boundless generosity. Our beloved “Papa Lindsey” was a friend to all who were fortunate enough to meet him, from senators to warehouse employees. His larger-than-life spirit, adventurous heart, love for country, and devotion to family will always be remembered.
Preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Mamie Bethea Lindsey and siblings Frances Wood, Jimmy Lindsey, and Leon Lindsey.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 13 years, Judy Harbin Lindsey; his two children, Wade Lindsey (Suzanne) and Susan Adams (Matt); stepdaughter Monica Ezell (Trey); grandchildren Justin Lindsey (Katie), Ashley Fitzgerald (David), Abi Hughes (Sam), Jonathan Adams, and Stephen Adams; step-grandsons Taylor Curtis and Peyton Curtis; five great-grandchildren; and countless others who loved him dearly.
There will be a gathering of friends and family on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Pine Crest Funeral Home (1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy., Mobile, AL 36605) at 1:30 p.m., before processing to a graveside memorial service that will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial gifts be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Dennis’ memory.
