Derek, your wonderful children are growing up so fast. They are thriving in school, friendships and life in general. I truly believe that it is because they know that their Dad loved them with all his heart. That kind of love will sustain them through life’s inevitable sorrows. I am so grateful to you for being such a great Dad, and I think of you often, especially today.  Keep shining your light from heaven on these kiddos, and watch them bloom into the incredible adults that they are destined to be. ❤️

Dear dad though out this pass year without you in my life i have looking for myself again. When you passed away a little bit of myself passed away, but ive been doing so much better because i know you are bringing these amazing people in my life. It feels good deep in my soul that you are partying up there. Thank you for the best 16 years of a young mans life and i promise im going to live by your word and make you proud everyday. I love you so much dad save a party hat for me when i get up there. Keep painting those clouds and making this life such a blessings me and the girls miss you and love you very much.

I remember when I would pretend to be sick on Mondays and Tuesdays, just so my dad (Derek) would pick me up and we go to Chick-Fil- A, than Walmart.

To Derek’s children.. I am so sorry that you have lost such a precious soul and huge part of yourselves. I knew your Dad many years ago, when we were in our 20’s. He was the most respectful and compassionate man I’ve ever known. I will always hold a very special place in my heart for him.. and, whenever he crosses my mind, I will remember his children (whom I KNOW he loved more than anything on earth). I will pray for you all. I pray you feel your precious Dad with you, all the days of your lives. May God bless you all and give you peace. <3

I remember when me and my dad ( Derek ) me and my sister ( Emerson ) came  home from bus and he fired us with Nerf guns, and we had Nerf wars in the house.

Derek was my former son in law. He was a fantastic dad, and his kids, my grandchildren, adored him. When he wasn’t at work, he was with his kids. I am heartbroken that he will never see them grow into the wonderful adults that I know they will be.  And I don’t even want to think about how much their hearts will continue to break as they pass each life milestone without him. Rest in peace, Derek, and know how much you were loved by so many.

Many years ago Derek, Owenne, and some other much younger folk worked for Nick Apostle. We thought we would live forever. Rest in Peace Chef Derek.
