

Donald Ray Brewer, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at his home in Mobile with his family by his side. Mr. Brewer was a Fire Captain with the Mobile Fire Department when he retired in 1992. He was an accomplished Custom Home painter and played the banjo throughout his life. He was born in Shelbyville, Tennessee on February 26, 1938, and came to Mobile at six years of age with his parents. He liked to paint and work on projects in his garage.
Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his father, Harlan Henry Brewer, and his mother, Irma Kilpatrick Butler. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirlie JoAnn (Farmer) Brewer; his brother, Harlan Ralph Brewer (Margaret); his sister, Jean Thoss; 4 children, Gina Brewer Muss (Ken) of Mobile, Lisa Brewer Goodwin (Frank) of Mobile, Donna Jo Brewer of Nashville, TN, and Donald Ray Brewer, Jr. (Veronica) of Mobile; brothers-in-law, Morris Farmer, Jr. (Linda) and Danny Ray Farmer; sister-in- law, Joyce Weaver (Harmon); and 5 grandchildren, Phillip Richardson, Trey Hendrix, Destini Broyles, Christopher Brewer, and Emily Brewer.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 3 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Interment will be in Miller Family Cemetery.
