Douglas Eugene McIntyre, age 86, of Saraland, Alabama, passed away on March 23, 2026. Born in Mobile, Alabama, he was a proud graduate of Vigor High School and went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard as a medic.
Douglas lived a full and active life, marked by his love of sports, music, business, and community. In 1971, he took over an electrical service business from his cousin and, through hard work, integrity, and determination, built it into a very successful and profitable company. He was known not only for his strong work ethic but for the way he treated his employees—with fairness, respect, and genuine care—often looking after them in ways that went far beyond the workplace.
As a young man, he was an accomplished fast-pitch softball player in Mobile, earning recognition as a State All-Star. He played with passion and determination, forging lifelong friendships alongside his brother, Les McIntyre. His competitive spirit and love for the game carried into his years as a coach, where he mentored countless young athletes in Chickasaw and Saraland from 1965 to 1980. Through his guidance, many children not only learned the game but also felt valued, encouraged, and cared for.
In addition to athletics, Douglas had a deep love for music. He sang with The Stars music group, entertaining audiences along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and later served faithfully as music director at Manor Baptist Church and West Chickasaw Baptist Church. Music remained a lifelong passion, and he found great joy in sharing it with others.
Douglas enjoyed fishing—especially for white perch and bream—and was an avid fan of Alabama football, a passion he passed down through generations of his family. He also loved baseball and brought the same energy and dedication to coaching that he displayed as a player.
Above all, Douglas was known for his love for people. He had a remarkable way of making others feel special, always placing their needs above his own. His kindness, generosity, and genuine care left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was deeply devoted to God and to his relationship with his Heavenly Father. A loving and faithful husband, he shared a devoted marriage with his wife, Lois Ann, until her passing nearly three years ago. Even while facing physical challenges, Douglas continued to serve others, leading a weekly Bible study with the hope of guiding others to Christ. His greatest desire was for his family and friends to know the assurance of salvation and to love one another as Jesus Christ commanded.
Douglas is survived by his sons, Darrell McIntyre (Alicie McIntyre) and Kevin McIntyre (Jennifer McIntyre); his daughters, Ashley Shirley (David Shirley) and Angie George; his brother-in-law, Ernest Kirkland; and his grandchildren, Triston McIntyre; Jordan George (Maddy, and great-grandson Ollie); Tyler George (Jacquelyn, and great-grandson Lucas); Ashton George; Addison George; Donald Keith Farnell Jr; Julia Damasceno; and Juliana Pimenta.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Lester McIntyre; his mother, Willie McKinney McIntyre; his brother, Lester McIntyre; his sister, Joyce Kirkland; and his cherished wife, Lois Ann.
Douglas Eugene McIntyre will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, coaching, mentorship, and service. His legacy of love, compassion, and devotion will live on in all who knew him.
The family will receive family and friends at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon.
