Elizabeth Anne Vaughan Bender Holt, a native of Providence, Rhode Island and longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, died June 2, 2025. She was 92 years old. She attended Moravian Seminary in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem in 1949. She graduated from Randolph Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1953. She received her Masters Degree in Theology at Spring Hill College in 2001. Mrs. Holt was a lifelong Episcopalian and an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she was a member of St. Catherine’s Guild. Over her lifetime and in the states in which she lived, Mrs. Holt was active on behalf of public education, community relations, the arts and environmental concerns. Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by her parents, James P. Bender and Hughetta E. Bender, of Bethlehem, Pa. She is survived by her three children, Robert James Holt (Sara) of Mobile, Al., David Preston Holt (Renatta) of Burke, Va., and Christian Anne Holt of Mobile, Al., as well as four grandchildren, Preston Travis Holt (Ann) of Woodbridge, Virginia, Kendall Leigh Hoisington (Aaron) of Graham, Washington, Mary Elizabeth Patry (Frank) of Leawood, Kansas, and Katherine Grace Evans Holt of Sydney, Australia. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ruth Patry, James Frank Patry and Zoey Nova Hoisington. A memorial service will be held from the chapel of St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall beginning at 10 a.m. Inurnment will be in Springhill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Spring Hill College Theology Department or the Mobile Public Library.
