A native of Mobile, Erin had a full career in the Alabama Public School System teaching with an emphasis in Special Education. She began her studies with a major in Education at the University of Alabama where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She received her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Alabama and her master's degree in Special Education from Spring Hill College.
She began her career at Alba Elementary. Once she moved to high school, she said “she would never leave” as she valued helping adolescents at a critical period in their life. She also sponsored the student council and taught as an inclusion teacher. She made sure all students, not just special ed students, had help when they needed it.
She assisted her colleagues in English, History, and some Science classes, but often facetiously remarked that she drew the line at Math.
Erin specialized and excelled at teaching reading classes. She particularly liked utilizing real-world scenarios to illustrate her lessons, and her students loved her for it to the point where some students would have run through a wall had she asked.
Herself an avid reader, Erin also loved arts and crafts. Most recently, Erin created a series of shell art using locally harvested oyster shells. She was a beloved aunt to her nephew and nieces, and she especially loved spending time with her family on the bay.
Erin is survived by her mother, Diane Vulevich, sister, Janet Stewart (Andrew) and her brother Edward John Vulevich, III (Catherine); her nephew, Edward John Vulevich, IV; niece Catherine Reynalds Vulevich and Eloise “Lucy” Hart Vulevich. She is predeceased in death by her father Edward John Vulevich, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 5, at 11am at St. Philip Neri, 9101 Dauphin Island Pkwy, Theodore, Al 36582. A reception will follow at the Parish hall. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
