Frances Lila Knizley Palughi

Mrs. Palughi was born April 24, 1939 in Chipley, Florida to Harvey Lee Knizley and Florence Isabel Knizley. She is survived by her two children, John Anthony “Tony” Palughi of Mobile, Alabama, Vincent Gregory Palughi (Tina) of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Kristen Marie Palughi of Seattle, Washington and Andrew Joseph Palughi, College Station, Texas; two brothers, Robert Clifton “Bob” Knizley, Sr. (Chere), Dennis James Knizley (Lisa), and nieces and nephews Kevin, Kim, Cliff, Jeni, Lydia, Alta, Laura, Libby, and Connor.

Mrs. Palughi was raised in Eight Mile, Alabama. She graduated from C.F. Vigor High School in 1957. After living in North Carolina for several years, she returned to Mobile, where she resided until her death. She was married to her beloved husband, Mobile attorney and District Court Judge Delano Palughi for 33 years until his death in 2003.

Mrs. Palughi was known for her elaborate family Christmas parties at their beautiful home in midtown Mobile. Though the parties were said to be family, through kindness and generous hospitality of Judge and Mrs. Paulghi the parties were enjoyed by just as many friends and sometimes strangers who grew to be become cherished friends and treated like family. Frances and Delano centered their life around family. For decades they took nieces, nephews, and other family members on countless motorhome trips to Walt Disney World in Orlando. Frances’ miniature Christmas scene that covered much of the large front porch of her home could be seen almost year-round and was once celebrated in the Mobile Press Register as a delightful community offering.

We will celebrate the life of Frances at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mobile, Alabama, Monday, July 24, 2023. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama.
