

Gilbert Stephen Taylor, loving father and grandfather, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1938, in Oliver Springs, TN. He spent the majority of his life in Tuscaloosa, AL, and the past six years in Mobile, AL, with is family.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Isaac Everette Taylor, mother, Ada Beatrice Taylor, and siblings.
He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Taylor Mills (Steve), Shannon Taylor Riley (David), his sweet granddaughter Gracie LeeAnn Mills, former wife and Mother of his daughters, Betty Taylor.
He is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, step-son Terry Sanford (Jana), their sons Grant Sanford (Rylee), Lane Sanford (Madelyn), other family members and cherished friends.
For 39 years Gilbert Taylor was a long-time, loyal employee of Parker Towing Company in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He started his career as a deck hand and worked hard to advance retiring as Chief Port Engineer. He was an admired leader in his organization and respected in the industry on every water-way and port.
A masterful mechanic, he was industrious and resourceful. He could fix anything. He loved working with his hands doing everything from diagnosing and repairing highly technical vessel engines to restoring his antique cars.
Gilbert had quite a presence in any room. He was an avid Elvis fan. He loved to travel, enjoyed going to his class reunions, and watching Westerns on tv.
Our family would like to give special thanks to his wonderful care team, home health nurse Ms. Monica Turner, RN Case Manager, and Ms. LaQuella Jackson, Caregiver, for their compassionate, kind, loving care over these past 6 years. Their skill and professionalism are unmatched. We have been blessed beyond measure for them to have walked with us through an uncharted journey. We will forever be grateful.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Cary Cubitt.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4th at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin St. in Mobile, AL. Visitation is at 10:00am, followed by funeral service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made “In Memory of Gilbert Taylor” to the
