She leaves behind to cherish in her memory her husband of 66 years John “Jack” Walter Collins. Three children, Mike Collins (Nita) of Mobile, Jerry Collins (Diana) of Mobile, and Lisa Collins Stevens (Joe) of Hattiesburg, MS. Nine grandchildren, Johnny Collins, Brian (Amberly) Adams, Megan Turberville, Bailey Collins Dodd (Micah), Claire Collins, Anna Collins, Will (Rachel) Stevens, Matthew Stevens, Grace Stevens. A lifelong resident of Mobile, she was a graduate of Murphy High School class of 1956 where she was president of her sorority Alpha Gamma Omega. Her positive attitude was influential as she created a loving and happy home for Jack and her five children. Her strength and patience radiated in everything she touched. Whether it was being a volunteer at the baseball park, Forest Hill United Methodist Church, school events or being with her 40 yearlong bunco group she always had an optimistic spirit. Known as G-Mom, her nine grandchildren loved being around her playing games, eating her goodies, and hearing her infectious laugh. She is also fondly remembered for her 22 years as Secretary at Forest Hill Elementary School where she was known as “Gerri”.
Thank you to Tiffany Carey and Cindy Kountz Kearley for the devotion and care shown our family during the last several years. Your love and compassion will never be forgotten.
