Harriet Perry Hendrix - passed away on May 29 after a long battle with cancer. She fought this terrible disease for 9 long years, with the most amazing strength and courage. Born in South Georgia, she lived in Wurtzburg, Germany and Tuscaloosa, AL before settling in Mobile to raise her family. She was an artistic soul who is remembered for her handmade Christmas ornaments and many art projects. Later in life she discovered a love for jewelry making and created an online business with her beautiful pieces, donating a portion of every sale to the American Cancer Society. Harriet's time in Germany instilled a love of travel and she jumped at any chance to board a plane or cruise ship. Working as a travel agent for many years, and owning her own agency with her husband, gave her that outlet to see the world. Those close to her will also remember her for her love of African violets which line her kitchen window, and for her voracious appetite for reading, making frequent trips to the local library. She was a dedicated Mother, and passionate Grandmother, known by her grandkids as GeeGee. Once diagnosed with breast cancer, she moved to Atlanta to be closer to her children and benefit from the expert oncology care of Dr. Colleen Austin. She is survived by her daughters Tiffany Willard and Stephanie Brakefield, son-in-law Pat Brakefield, grandchildren Hendrix, Anna Claire, Braxton, and Mary Cayten Brakefield, and Zach Willard, and her brother Louie Perry. She is preceded in death by her husband Hiram Hendrix, and her parents Lois and Schley Perry. Visitation will be held Saturday June 4th, 9am at Dauphin Way Methodist Church, with services following in the Chapel at 10am. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36606.
