Helen was predeceased by her husband of 66 years at the time of his death, William S. Bunch, Jr. They met when she processed his new employment paperwork at International Paper and always joked that she really signed him up for life with her. Several years later, they formed Bunch and Company General Contractors with Bill running remodeling jobs, and Helen managing everything else.
Helen is also pre-deceased by her father, James E. Allen, mother Alma Jones Allen, as well as both of her sisters, Christine Earnhardt, and Ann Neese.
She is survived by her son, William S. Bunch III, daughter-in-law Mary H. Bunch, both of Orlando, FL, and granddaughter and her husband, Elizabeth Burgess, and Lt. Matthew A. Burgess , currently residing in Raleigh, NC. Also survived by her brother J. L. (Sonny) Allen of Baton Rouge, LA, brother-in-law James A (Alonso) Bunch and his partner-in-life Rio Cordy of Orange Beach, AL, nieces, and nephews.
Helen also leaves behind many cherished lifelong friends, including Ms. Ollie Robinson who she met her first day at International Paper, and enjoyed their daily phone calls up to now. She was blessed to have incredible neighbors who watched over her every day, providing daily meals, and doing whatever chores she needed taken care of, and providing many hours of phone calls, a shared love of reading novels, and companionship. Helen also enjoyed getting the latest gossip from the tabloids while adding her own embellishments, and watching SEC Football, especially Auburn, while eating her Saturday McDonald’s hamburger and vanilla milkshake.
Helen’s proudest accomplishment in life is her son, Bill. She made sure that he received the best education and guidance to ensure his success in whatever field he chose, as well making sure that he had every opportunity to participate in sports, music, or whatever interested him at the time. Cotillion was the one thing she insisted on though and he didn’t care for it much.
She was also quite proud of her only granddaughter, Elizabeth. Bill provided commentary and updates every Sunday on what Elizabeth and Matthew were up to.
