She spent her younger days in Whistler, Alabama with her parents and siblings Sidney Anderson, Nancy Anderson (Crenshaw), Kirby Anderson and Cynthia Anderson. She attended and graduated from Vigor High School in 1968. After high school, she worked for the clinic of Doctors Barrett, Green and Tucker in Mobile as a medical assistant.
In 1973 she met her future husband, Rickey Corker during a double date where they discovered they liked each other a lot more than their respective dates. By 1974 they were married and remained together for more than 50 years, a milestone they celebrated together in July 2024. In 1978 Iris gave birth to her only child, Matthew Corker.
Iris decided to further her education and attended the University of South Alabama, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During this time she was a member of the Sigma Tau Delta and Phi Alpha Theta honors societies. Upon graduation, Iris worked at the USS Alabama as an Archivist, the Chickasaw Library as a Librarian and finally at International Paper as a Land Management Administrative Specialist. In her later years, Iris supported her husband’s multiple careers and Matthew’s Air Force enlistment, college education and subsequent careers. She achieved her goal of owning a house at the beach and enjoyed sitting outside and listening to the sounds of Gulf Shores until her passing.
Iris leaves behind her husband Rickey, her son Matthew, stepdaughter Paige, daughter-in-law Sarra, grandchildren Elizabeth, Melody, Amanda and Dalton, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family both by blood and by bond. We love you all and we will all miss her very much.
