Jim was a well-known and deeply respected local artist and musician whose creativity touched countless lives throughout the Gulf Coast community. Whether through his music, his artwork, or his adventurous spirit beneath the sea, Jim lived life passionately and fully. An accomplished underwater photographer and avid scuba diver, he found peace and inspiration in the beauty of the ocean. In his younger years, he proudly served as a dive master and dedicated Boy Scout leader, mentoring many young people and sharing his love for adventure, discipline, and nature.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Lee Wainwright; his father, Marion Charles Wainwright; and his mother, Marinelle Dumas Wainwright.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Cheryl Harrison Wainwright; his son, Scott Jerome Wainwright; his daughter, Shay Wainwright Parker and husband John; his grandsons, Brian Wainwright, Nathaniel Robinson, and Tyler Cox; his granddaughters Breanna Trawick, Hayley Robinson and Mattea Trawick; great grandsons Milo Baker and Quincy Baker; great grand daughter Kassidy Cox; brother, Charles David Wainwright and wife Shirley; his sister, Leslie Lynn Wainwright; stepmother Fay Wainwright, stepchildren Michael (Traci) Trawick, Keli Robinson, Elizabeth Trawick; and Best friend and fellow Adventurer Robert Zimmerman along with many extended family members, dear friends, fellow artists, musicians, divers, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Jim will be remembered for his artistic soul, adventurous heart, unmistakable spirit, and the kindness and wisdom he shared so freely with others. His legacy will continue to live on through his art, music, photographs, and the many memories made with those he loved.

Visitation will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
