
Jane Siver Everest, a native of South Haven, MI, and longtime resident of Mobile, passed away on August 20, 2012 at the age of 85. Jane was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Arthur Everest. She is survived by her five children: Kathleen Meadows (Patrick), David Everest (Brenda), Mark Everest (Janis), Ellen Barth (Robert), and Andrew Everest (Tina). She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Jane earned a master's degree in secondary education from the University of South Alabama and taught at McGill-Toolen High School for over 20 years. She served as moderator for the high school yearbook, and the publication received multiple national awards under her advisement. Jane is fondly remembered by her students for challenging their intellectual potential and driving their success. Respected for her determination and diverse knowledge, Jane displayed a passion for actively participating in her community as a force for positive change. She was the current president of the League of Women Voters of Mobile after serving in the same capacity over 50 years earlier. Jane was a proponent of voter education and informed participation in politics as evidenced by her recent op-ed publication in the Press-Register. She volunteered with the Providence Hospital Auxiliary for over 15 years. Jane was a member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church for 61 years and taught a Sunday school class as well as adult education classes. A memorial service will be held at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church on Monday, August 27 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the service. The family asks that memorial donations be made to Dauphin Way United Methodist Church or the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
