Joanne Sibley (affectionately nick-named Sit) was a loving mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. She grew up in Hessmer, Louisiana and was one of 7 children. After living in California, Florida, and Maryland, Joanne moved to Long Beach, Mississippi where she worked for several years at the Harrison County Courthouse in the Tax Collectors Office. She transferred to the Harrison County Health Department and retired in 2001 to move to Mobile to be closer to her daughters, Sandy and Cindy when her first granddaughter was born. Joanne became a counselor at the Women’s Resource Center here in Mobile where she led many young women to Christ. Her passion was to see them come to know the Lord and ultimately choose to keep their babies. She enjoyed visiting the nursing home on her lunch hour to encourage the residents when she worked in Mississippi and then continued here in Mobile.
She loved worshiping the Lord and she was passionate about witnessing to anyone who would let her tell them about Jesus. She was always available to help her children in anything that was needed; a hand in Children’s Church or Sunday School, an extra hand in the wedding businesses, being the treasurer for American Heritage Girls when her daughter started it Mobile, helping decorate for the church Fall Festivals - there was nothing she would shy away from doing, if asked.
She greatly loved her daughters, their husbands like sons, and her beautiful granddaughters. They were her heart and joy, especially being able to help with her grandchildren. They are left here to remember her life; Sandy, Steve, Brooke, & Faith Whitfield and Cindy & Tony Sylvest and her devoted niece, Connie Sanders.
“Sit” was greeted in Heaven that early Thursday morning by her mother and father (Annie and Sheldon Aymond), her sisters – Grace, Dee, Maryann, & Zoallen, and her brothers – Herman & Lou.
Her family will give their farewells in a private graveside service at Pinecrest Cemetery on Snow Road Tuesday morning. Her final wish would be for those reading this to come to know the Jesus she knew and now gets to see every day, her personal Savior and friend.
