Joseph and his 2 other siblings were the first set of triplets born in Mobile County on February 6, 1939. Joseph retired from the army after rising to the rank of Colonel. He served two tours in the Vietnam war. Joseph also retired from the Mobile County School Board with 20 plus years as a math teacher with Murphy High School. Joseph graduated from Mississippi State University in 1962 earning a B.S. degree. He continued his education earning a PhD in math.
Joseph (Joe) was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sr. and Wilda Bailey. He is survived by three son’s Joseph III (Leigh) Bailey, Paul Bailey Sr., and Mark (Dusty) Bailey. Five grandchildren, Mary Lauren (Preston) Bailey-Connell, Paul (Elaina) Bailey, Jr., Griffin Bailey, David Bailey and Stephen Jacob “SJ” Bailey. Two great grandchildren, Piper Connell and Beck Connell.
A committal service will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located at 6100 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, Alabama, 36619, on January 8, 2026, starting at 10:00 am.
