Joseph Warren Belanger

Joseph Warren Belanger - Born, March 18, 1930 passed, July, 12, 2022. Known endearingly as “Joe Who”, Our father joined the Marines & served with distinction in Korea. On August 3, 1950, Joe’s Marine unit became a part of the 1st Marine Brigade involved in the Pusan Triangle and was 1 of 10,000 Marines involved in The Battle of the Chosin Reservoir/Hellfire Valley. He drove amphibious vehicles onto the beaches of Korea . He described the unbelievable cold & how they kept tootsie rolls in their pockets bc they were the only thing that would not freeze. Joe carried tootsie rolls in his pockets & would give them to people & share the story of how tootsie rolls helped Marines survive in the cold of Korea.Joe spoke w/ pride at meeting Chesty Puller in Korea. Joe was so unbelievably proud of being a Marine & serving his country he loved dearly. Semper Fi was a term he stated proudly & taught his children & grandchildren. Joe’s family & grandchildren deeply understood their Papa’s pride in serving & how proud he was to be a Marine. They have a clear understanding of the sacrifice & what it means to truly serve our country. Once a Marine, always a Marine. We know our dad & PaPa’s Angel wardrobe is a Marine uniform in Heaven and I’m sure when God presented it to him,our father & grandfather beamed & smiled in pride. Joe married the love of his life,Helen on Oct 11,1951 & went to Boston University where he graduated in 3 yrs with a degree in Business.

Joe is preceded in passing by his wife of 47 years, Helen Belanger, wife of 15 years, Jan Belanger,his daughter Shana Belanger Bertucci.

He is survived by his children/grandchildren:

Son,Joseph Michael Belanger & wife Rachal Belanger.

Daughter, Mary Kelley Belanger Butler & husband Greer Butler.Son in law Peter Bertucci.Joe’s grandchildren,Bailey Belanger,Meggie Bertucci, Hutton Butler,Griffin Butler, Greer Butler, & Joseph Wood and family, Bell Williams.

Graveside services and inurnment will be held in Mobile Memorial Gardens on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 1 p.m.
