

Joseph Henry Ellsworth, Sr - 89, our beloved father, papa, uncle and friend passed on to Heaven on 23 Jan 2014 at W.F. Green Veterans Home. He was born December 31st, 1924 in Mobile, Alabama to William Henry Ellsworth, Jr. and Helen Gottschalck Ellsworth on Mohawk Street. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, raising dogs and chickens, and being with his family and friends. Joe's history is dug deep in the Mobile area. He attended Little Flower Catholic School, St. Mary's Catholic School and then went on to attend Murphy High School. He is a World War II veteran who fought courageously in Europe during the war. He worked for Southern Bell (AT&T) for many years until he retired. Joe was always there for everyone whether you were family, friend or neighbor; you were always welcome at his table. He always had time and an ear for anyone who needed advice or just someone to listen. He took many into his home that had nowhere else to stay and fed everyone that entered his door. He was a generous and very compassionate soul who loved his family and friends dearly. Joe is survived by his three children; Joseph (Janice) Ellsworth, Jr, Nancy Ellsworth, and Hubert (Billie) Ellsworth, 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Bru, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 of his siblings; Etta Mae Smith, Martha Byerley, Mary Ellsworth, and William Henry Ellsworth, III, as well as his loving and devoted wife and partner Willouise. We will miss sitting in the swing and visiting with you, your advice, your warm hugs, and the strong handshake that you extended to everyone. You were an example to us all in how to love and live to the fullest extent and beyond all bounds. The family extends special Thanks and Love to the staff at W.F. Green Veterans Home and Gentiva Hospice Care, Bay Minette, Alabama. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at 11:00 am at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Whistler, Alabama. Family will receive Friends at St. Bridget Church at 10:00 am until service time. Following church services burial will be at "the Family Bru" cemetery at (Approx. 12:30 pm) located in Turnerville, Alabama (on Army Rd off Celeste Rd ). Following burial services family and friends are welcomed for lunch at the Home of Michael and Jennifer Bru (on-site).
