

Joseph Benjamin Garris, 89, died October 8, 2013 at his home in Mobile where he resided for more than 70 years. He was born August 15, 1924 in Washington County, Alabama. Mr. Garris is preceded in death by the love of his life, Eva Hale Garris. He is survived by one sister, Ms. Nellie Marshall of Sunflower, AL, and three children, Donald J. Garris(Lynn), William K. Garris and Linda Blackburn(Herman), numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Garris came to Mobile in the early 1940s to work for a construction company which was building what is now known as the Mobile Regional Airport. During this time he met Eva Hale and married. Their marriage lasted over sixty-five years and produced three children.
Mr. Garris began his career as a civilian employee for the United States Air Force in 1942 at Brookley Field, Mobile, AL and retired with over 30 years of service. Shortly after retirement he started another career in private industry with Teledyne Continental Engines, at Brookley Field, Mobile, AL and worked a number of years before retiring once again. Mr. Garris was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army participating in the European theater.
Joe and Eva Garris were charter members of Seven Hills Baptist Church. During their years of church service, they devoted their time and love to the church and its services in the community helping the church grow th where it stands today.
Now that Mr. Garris’ life has come to a close, two of the greatest events he was awaiting have now occurred: entering into the presence of his Lord and God and being united with his beautiful wife once again.
Graveside services were held Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11 AM in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
