

He is survived by his sister, Sally Kemp Masingill and brother-in-law John (Jay) H. Masingill III, his sister-in-law Champee G. Kemp, his nephews William (Billy) B. Kemp IV, John H. Masingill IV, John W. Goodson Jr., Babur (Bobby) Kilic and his nieces Jan Kemp Kilic, Kelly H. Kemp and Katherine M. Kemp.
He was preceded in death by his mother Henrietta McPhillips Kemp, his father William B. Kemp Jr. and his brother William B. Kemp III.
Joe was born October 18, 1945, in Mobile, Alabama, and graduated from Murphy High School, class of 1963. He attended Alabama College of Montevallo, the University of North Dakota and the University of South Alabama. He served four years active duty with the U.S. Air Force where his rank was Master Staff Sergeant. Joe then worked at First National Bank in Mobile, Alabama before moving to Fort Walton Beach, Florida to serve in the Air Force Reserves and work as a civilian Human Resource Specialist at Duke Field.
Joe was a passionate traveler who loved exploring the world and discovering new cultures with close friends. He had a love for cooking and appreciation for fine dining along with a discerning eye for antiques. As the family historian and colorful storyteller, Joe brought people together with his fun tales and warm personality. He was especially close to many of his cousins, with whom he shared countless memories, laughter and life-long bonds. Joe always enjoyed Mobile Mardi Gras and was selected to be a Knight in the court of 1972. Joe was also a longtime member of the Athelstan Club in downtown Mobile.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Pine Crest Funeral Home & Cemetery in Mobile, Alabama on November 1, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 am
