Laura Powell Few, 72, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. She was born in Clarke County, Alabama to Bobby Neal Powell and Wanda Brown Powell on July 11, 1950. Laura was a firecracker with an insurmountable zeal for life. She was one of the most hard-working individuals you would ever come upon. Laura worked at Gulf Lumber Company before her entrepreneurial heart took hold. She owned and operated Pride & Joy Daycare in Chickasaw, as well as Mobile Security Shredding. Laura was not one to prescribe to idle hands. In her early years, Laura enjoyed playing softball and was quite good at it. She was a very active member of the Azalea Kiwanis Club, and acting President at one time. Laura sat on the Board of Directors at New Horizons Credit Union. She was a long-time member of Christ United Church of Mobile. Of all Laura’s endeavors, she was most proud of her family. She loved spending time with them, and having cookouts they would also share with friends. She also loved her pets, especially her Mikey. Laura was brave, strong, independent, loyal, and honest – but most of all, she was loving and generous. She will be greatly missed.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Larry Powell; and one sister, Joan Gates.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Jack Few; three daughters: Lori (Don) Giles, their children Annabelle and Eli Giles, Becky (Heath) Haynie, their children Chas (Tabitha) Jordan, Ashleigh (T’Challa) Raynor, Caleb Smith, Morgan (Brandon) Cramer, Alexandra (Matthew) Davis, Kirby (Jessica) Smith, Heather Haynie, Brandon (Megan) Haynie, Hudson Haynie, and LaShea (Retired Capt. Walker Russell, U.S. Navy, Bradley Russell, and William Russell; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rayford (Gretchen) Gates and Bob Powell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Laura will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Mobile.
