Leevant Hutley

Leevant Hutley was born on March 16, 1949, in Statesboro, Georgia to the late Willie D. Hutley and Dorothy L. Hutley (Salter) (D.2023). He passed away at University Hospital in Mobile, Alabama on June 20, 2025.

During his early years, Leevant attended school in Bulloch County, Georgia school until relocating to Salisbury, Maryland in 1958. There he attended school in Wicomico County, MD. As an adult, Leevant was always gainfully employed. He began working at V.V. Hughes Produce in Salisbury, MD. From 1973 to 1985, Leevant served in The United States Army Reserves. After the Army, Leevant worked for Salisbury Steel until obtaining a carpeting position with Larry Gray’s Carpet. He also was employed by Bozman’s, and Mike Nichols Flooring. After gaining experience in carpeting and flooring, he began subcontracting forming Lee’s Carpeting Service. In Leevant’s later years, he worked for Salisbury Christian School until he became ill. After making a full recovery he began working for Shore Transit until retiring in December 2021.

During Leevant’s personal life he met and married, his first wife, Jean M. Smith (M 1971- 2021), (D. 2021). They happily welcomed their son Benjamin Matthew Hutley (D. 2001).

Leevant met and remarried Tena L. Hutley October 2022.

Leevant is survived by his wife Tena L. Hutley of Prichard, Alabama, his brother(s) Freddie Hutley of Pensacola, FL, Albert D. Hutley (Etsuko) of Pensacola, FL, Abe Hutley-Washington of Salisbury, MD, Charles Washington (Shirley) of Miami, FL, Alice Ann Williams ( Keith) of Allenhurst, GA, Grant Salter III (Yvette) of Salisbury, MD, and Rhonda Salter-Morgan (Ronald) of Salisbury, MD., and Aunt Vera Mae Baldwin of Statesboro, GA, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws.

Leevant was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy L. Hutley (Salter)(2023), his first wife Jean M. Hutley (2021), his son Benjamin Matthew Hutley (2001), his brother Edward “Bo” Hutley(2015), and his sister Ressie “Sookie” Hutley(1991).
