
Leslie E. Thompson traveled to Madrid, Spain in 1976 to participate in the Auburn-Alabama Abroad Program for foreign languages study. While in Spain, Les was influenced by Spanish art and spent time in Prado admiring the works of Velamquez, El, Graco, Titian, Goya, and others. Upon returning to Mobile, Thompson began intensive study of print making with a concentration in etching. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Auburn University in 1990. Leslie earned his blackbelt with the Japan Karate Association/American Federation under chief instructor, Mr. Sensei Takayuki Mikami, 9th Don Leslie also studied karate with Jim Luckey at the Unitarian Fellowship of Mobile. He studied Karate with Dr. Jim Boyles at University of South Alabama Leslie also studied karate with T. Waggener at Spring Hill College where he made one of his etchings of the chapel. Leslie will be greatly missed by all of his friends. The visitation will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017 with the burial to immediately follow.
