Margaret Havron Montiel departed this life, and entered the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on April 22, 2020 at the age of 93. It would be difficult to find a more beautiful woman with as gentle a soul. She was precious to all who knew and loved her.
Margaret was born June 14, 2016 in Little Rock, AR to parents Richard and Maudia Havron; however, she was raised and spent her married life in Mobile, AL. Always one to spread kindness, she played the piano on Saturdays as a young girl in local nursing homes. She attended school in Mobile where she was Queen of Robert E. Lee and a graduate of Murphy High School. A lifelong lover of shopping and “pretty things,” Margaret worked for Gayfer’s Department Store in Mobile for 20 years. The epitome of femininity, she never left the house “without her face on” and always wore perfume, lipstick, and polished nails. But it was not her outward beauty that defined her; instead, she was marked by, and will best be remembered for, her “inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quite spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:4.
Margaret met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Fitch Montiel in 1942. They were married for 49 years until his death in 1991, and were the adoring parents of Kenneth Fitch Montiel, Jr. and Ann Montiel Reese.
Following her husband’s death, Margaret moved to Montgomery in 1992 and lived with her daughter’s family for the next 25 years. Then and there, she developed deep and lasting bonds with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, her two children, her son-in-law, and her two sisters, Dorothy McClary and Gloria Wyatt. She is survived by her two brothers, Richard Havron and Robert Havron; her daughter-in-law, Sheila Montiel; her grandchildren, Kenneth Montiel III, Kimberly Carter (Bubba), Joseph Reese, Jr. (Amy), and Suzanne Hunter (Jeff); 10 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at Pine Crest Cemetery 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy Mobile, Alabama 36605. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be limited to 10 designated immediate family members.
