

Lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama died peacefully Thursday, February 24th at Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Residence in Mobile, Alabama. Mrs. Smith was born April 27, 1925 in New York City, NY and moved to Selma, Alabama as a war bride after marrying the love of her life W C Smith. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and St. Catherine’s Catholic Church before moving to Little Sisters of the Poor. She was a loyal member of the Buccanettes of Buccaneer Yacht Club, was a member of a local mystic organization, and enjoyed attending Mobile Mardi Gras balls and ballroom dancing, and spending time with her family especially at the Demeranville bay house. She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Mary O’Connell Foley and five siblings, husband W C Smith, son Raymond Joseph Smith, grandson Will Clayton Demeranville, granddaughter Margaret Frances Demeranville, and son-in-law Rodney H. Majure. Survivors include her son William Michael Smith (Rowena), Claudia Merrell (Ed), Gerard M. Smith, Kathy Demeranville (Charles) and Mary Claire Majure. Mrs. Smith is survived by her grandchildren Carol DeAnn Smith, Elaine Stockton (Carl), William M. Smith, Matthew Smith, Edward A. Merrell (Kristen), Olivia Wilson (Brent), Charles Hardy Demeranville (Jacqueline), Marguerite C. Majure, and seven great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Sisters, staff of Lourdes Lane and all the employees and volunteers of Sacred Heart Residence for the exceptional care and devotion Mrs. Smith was given during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Residence.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 7th at 9:30 am until the 11:00 am Mass of Christian burial at the Little Sisters of the Poor Sacred Heart Residence 1655 McGill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery. Arrangements are by Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL.
