Mary Grace Walters Clifton went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the evening of Thursday, January 22, 2026. She was 85 years old. Mary was born to Cleveland Lavon Walters and Mary Berniece Walters on June 10, 1940, in Mt. Olive, Mississippi. Mary was a businesswoman at heart. She worked as a Civil Servant for Ingalls before retiring after 35 years of service, and then went on to work for the City of Mobile Police Headquarters for 10 years.
She was a true woman of faith – she prayed believing in answers – and if anyone wanted to be sure their prayer was heard, they’d let her pray it. Mary was very classy and beautiful. She was full of love and poured every ounce she had into her family and friends. Mary never said a negative word about anyone. She loved Alabama Football (Roll Tide!) and never missed a football game. Mary adored her American Bulldog, Bama, and Bama returned that love tenfold to Mary. She was a wonderful woman and will be greatly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Clifton, and one grandson, Robert D. Clifton, III.
She is survived by her three children: Janet Riva (Scott), Robert D. Clifton, II (DeAnna), and Kenneth Wayne Clfiton (Jennifer); grandchildren: Christine Sweetser, Richard Sweetser, III (Ashley), Dale Sweetser (Jessie), Kelly Clifton, Breanna Clifton, Savannah Clifton, Ethan Williams, Mason Williams, Sclater Williams, Rebecca Houk (Shawn), and Hailey Clifton; great-grandchildren, Ember Ballard, Gianna Whitcomb, Isabella Houk, Rachel Coffman, Noah Houk, Emma Rose Houk, and Tatum Houk; sister, Hattie Lou Cumbest; brother Mark Walters (Denise); as well as a multitude of other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Mary will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile on Thursday, January 29, 2026, with a funeral service immediately following in the chapel. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
