Mary Williams Smith

Mary W. Smith.92, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, in Tuscaloosa, AL. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Lackey (James); grandchildren Robert Lackey (Lynn), Jennifer Allison (Matt), Ryan Lackey (Chezleigh), Daniel Lackey (Kaitlin), and Joey Lackey; 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary Louise Williams was born in Selma, AL to Arthur and Lessie Williams on Sept. 2, 1932. She married Lawrence C. Smith of Mobile on Sept. 17, 1955. They had two daughters Shannon S. Lackey and Laura K. Smith.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence C. Smith, parents Arthur and Lessie Williams and daughter Laura K. Smith.

She was "Grandma" to 5 grandchildren: Rob, Jennifer, Joey, Ryan and Daniel and their spouses; 21 great-grandchildren, Adilene, Colin, Nolan, Jayden, Evan, Logan Kate, Emmaleigh, Austin, Riley, Leighton, Savannah, Beckett, Landrey, Audrey, Greyson, Colby, Patton, Landen, Rory, Millie Kate and Natalie.

Mary graduated from St. Clair County High School and worked for International Paper Company before becoming a loving wife, homemaker, and devoted mother. She enjoyed sewing, loved all animals, enjoyed feeding the birds, collecting antique glassware, and spending time with her family.

Pallbearers will include: Robert Lackey, Ryan Lackey, Daniel Lackey, Matthew Allison, James Lackey and Joey Lackey.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a graveside service in Pine Crest Cemetery immediately following.
