Phyllis Mull Creel, 59, went to be in the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 21, 2023. She was born to Keith and Shirley Mull on April 24, 1963 in Mobile, Alabama, and a kinder soul never entered this world. Phyllis was a graduate of St. Paul’s Episcopal School, Auburn University, and received her Masters of Education from Springhill College. She followed her life’s calling into education, which sent her into her 19 year-long career teaching first and fourth grades in the Mobile County Public School System, and was honored with being named Teacher of the Year at Forest Hill Elementary. Phyllis thrived on mentoring student teachers and other teachers – she truly cherished her career.
Phyllis loved people and was truly a social butterfly. She was a member of a mystic society in Mobile, and LOVED everything about Mobile Mardi Gras. Phyllis was a Delta Beta Sigma, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. She loved hosting parties – especially Supper Club with long-time friends – anything and everything related to Auburn University (War Eagle!), and spending time on Dauphin Island. Phyllis was a long-time and active member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Out of all of Phyllis' grand life events, the one she held closest to her heart was the birth of her granddaughter, Mary Emmaline. She sparked a light in Phyllis' heart and gave her strength. Phyllis truly lived for her.
Phyllis loved and cherished all of her family and friends – she had a way of making people feel truly accepted and loved – and always kept them in her heart.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her grandparents: Robert and Thelma Tinsley, William Prater, Jacob and Artie Mull; and her two dear friends, Beatrice “Bea” King and Yvonne “Honey” Mauldin.
She is survived by her mother, Shirley Mull; father, Keith Mull; her beloved daughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Nick Hogenkamp; their daughter, Mary Emmaline; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Angela Mull; their two children, Christopher and Caroline; as well as many cherished friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 beginning at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church: 1900
Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36606.
