Robert Thomas “Tom” Hegler, Jr., 76, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in Fairhope, Alabama. He was born to Robert T. Hegler, Sr. and Velda (Hegler) Rolison on November 8, 1945 in Gladewater, Texas. Tom joined the United States Navy, during which time he served two tours in Vietnam in MCB 3. A savvy business man, Tom owned and operated his own business for 42 years. He was Commodore at the Daphne Yacht Club, and volunteered with at the Waterfront Rescue Mission, serving Thanksgiving dinners and helping the homeless community in Mobile. Tom also worked with the Chamber of Commerce. He was with the Conde Cavaliers for 25 years.
He loved fishing and being on the water in any vessel he could find. Tom enjoyed hunting, riding horses, and coaching children’s sports team. He was a history buff and avid reader. Above all else, Tom loved his family. He was greatly loved, and will be missed.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Robert T. Hegler, Sr. and Velda Rolison; and one brother, Richard Rolison.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Laurie Hegler; one daughter, Kristie Wilson; two sons, Bobby Hegler and Mike Sapia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of cherished friends.
Visitation for Tom will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Waterfront Rescue Mission 279 North Washington Avenue, Mobile, Alabama 36603.
