She is also preceded by her husband of 57 years; George E. She is also survived by her brother Jimmy Burl Jefcoat and sisters: Gracie Holifield, Marie Dykes, Frances Ishee, Dorothy Sumurall and sister-in-law Ovene Jefcoat. The family would also like to extend sincere thanks to April Richardson, Cynthia Powell, David Oliver, and Pam Keith for their kindness during these last years. Ruby was born in SoSo, MS, but would later move to Mobile, AL where she met and married her late husband, George, in 1947 during her brief career as a shoe saleswoman at Hamel’s Department Store. Ruby was a member of Springhill Baptist Church for more than 50 years until her death. It wasn’t always about church though; Ruby gained a passion for gardening by being an active member and multiple year president of her neighborhood garden club. Like many in Mobile, she had a fondness for Mardi Gras, and joined one of the oldest women’s Mystic Societies in town. But she will always be remembered for her finest job, head of family, which she ran “Ruby” style until her death. Visitation will be Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home. The funeral service will occur Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be offered for the Holland family at www.pinecrestfuneralhome.com.
