Ruth Matheny Hughes

Ruth Matheny Hughes - Born November 20, 1914, in Goodway, AL, and a resident of Daphne for the past 32 years, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at the age of 96. Mrs. Hughes was a founding member of Jubilee Baptist Church in Daphne and was a former member of Wilson Avenue Baptist Church in Prichard. The epitome of a strong and Godly woman, she spent much of her time in prayer and reading the Bible, having read it cover to cover 48 times. Mrs. Hughes was a true Christian example who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shelby Hughes Williamson; and her parents, John Henry and Janie Brantley Matheny.

Survivors include her daughter, Lois Hughes Thibodeaux of Gulf Shores; two sisters, Esther Singley of Silas, AL and Lily Auberneeze Jones of North Pole, AK; four grandchildren, Cindy McGee, Terry Loper, Kevin Hendrix, and Charles Loper; ten great-grandchildren; five great, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held from Jubilee Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 12 Noon.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in Sowell's Old Field in Goodway, AL at 3:30 p.m.
