

Mrs.Shirley Ann Tillman Herrington, age 64, was born November 11, 1949 in Mobile, AL. She passed away on March 2, 1014 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a heroic battle with Alzheimer’s. She lived her entire life in the Bayou La Batre area. Shirley deeply loved the community in which she lived, worked and worshiped. She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Edgar (M.E.) Tillman one brother, Martin Brett Tillman and Goddaughter Kayci Linn Baacke. She is survived by her loving, devoted Mother, May Ladnier Tillman and truly devoted sister, Catherine Elizabeth (Beth) Bryant. She was devoted to her husband of 45 years, Mr. James Wendell Herrington. The couple were married March 6, 1969. Shirley leaves behind her only child, daughter Brandi Renee’ Herrington. A devoted son-in-law Wade (Trey) Bosarge, III. Two grandchildren, Murphy Herrington Zirlott and Brodie Stillwell Cain. Her grandchildren could lighten her mood even near the end of her illness. The power they had to make Shirley smile was an unexplainable and amazing event to witness. Loved nieces, Katie Marie Bryant (Charlie) Seymour, Melissa Kay Bryant, Allison Patricia Huffman, Eleanor Elizabeth Louise Huffman and Kimberly Herrington (Charles) Miller. Nephews, Weston Glen Bryant, Andrew Martin Bryant, Robert Lee (Angie) Bryant and John Newton Herrington, Jr. Great-nieces Sarah Elizabeth Johnson, Haleigh Madison Seymour and Mary Catherine Bryant. Great-nephews Gavin Bryant Seymour, Joshua Earl Miller and Christopher Neal Miller. Adored Godchildren, Maria Mallett, Lisa Ladnier Givens, Andrew Martin Bryant, Nicholas Ladnier, Allison Patricia Huffman, Eleanor Elizabeth Louise Huffman, Joshua Earl Miller and Christopher Neal Miller. She was also devoted to Brittany Christine Ross who she sponsored in Catholic Confirmation. Devoted family and friends; Eula Lee Stork, Michael J. and Wanda Bosarge, Barry and Kathy Bosarge, JoBeth Bosarge, Ashley Bosarge, Thomas Weinacker, Genny Landry, and Michelle (Mikey) Ladnier Johnston. Brothers-in-law John Newton Herrington Sr. and Glen Bryant. Sisters-in-law Susan Herrington and Evelyn Herrington Huffman. She greatly loved all her aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Ladnier family. Shirley also loved her Herrington family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins abound. Her friends made throughout life, work and faith are far too numerous to count. Shirley was a DEVOUT Catholic and a faithful member of Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church in Bayou La Batre, AL. Throughout the years she held various positions with the church. She was Chairperson for the annual Fleet Blessing for many years and was a devoted CCD teacher, preparing children to receive communion for the first time. Her passion was Choir Director which she led with joy and love. Shirley was a 1968 graduate of Peter F. Alba High School. She proudly served our area as an Azalea Trail Maid. She was a National Junior Honor Society member, on the yearbook staff and a sliding trombone player in the band. She loved her bandmates and never forgot the memories of those years. She was an active member in her community of Bayou La Batre. Shirley, along with her mother, won the Taste of Bayou for four years with a family recipe of Oyster Chowder. She was a member of the Bayou La Batre Chamber of Commerce and worked in the capacity of treasurer. One of her favorite events with this organization was the annual Seafood Bash held at our State Capital. She was also active in the Bayou La Batre Youth Boosters, tabulating scores for the Mobile County America’s Junior Miss program. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Bayou La Batre, AL. Family visitation will be from 9 to 9:30am. Friends will be received from 9:30 till 11am. A memorial by Mrs. Martha Lyons Peek and Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am. Graveside services will immediately follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Active Pallbearers are Weston Bryant, Andrew Bryant, Robert Lee Bryant, Leo Ladnier, Harrison Ladnier, Nicholas Ladnier and Thomas Weinacker. Honorary Pallbearers are John Newton Herrington Sr., Glenn Bryant, Michael J. Bosarge, Barry Bosarge, Wade (Trey) Bosarge, III, Alvin Wilson and Pete Barber. The family of Mrs. Herrington would like to extend their most heartfelt appreciation to Springhill Home Health and Hospice for their loving care that they showed to both Shirley and her family during the last months of her life. Ms. Pattie, Ms. Debbie and Ms. Erica’s kindness will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, it was Shirley’s wish to have donations made to her beloved parish of St. Margaret’s, in particular to the beautification fund of St. Michaels’s Cemetery.
