Before Daybreak on Sept 30, 2023 Victoria Lou Vallas Dykes went to spend eternity with our Lord. Vicki was born on October 17 1953 in Wheeling West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her father Lou Vallas, her mother Augustine Vallas, and her brother Pete Vallas. She is survived by her husband of 36 years Jim Dykes, her daughter and son inlaw Amber Connick (Michael), her granddaughters Banks Connick, Harliegh Connick, and Ashlyn Connick. Vick was half Greek and half Polish with a constant “Opah” spirit of life.
Vicki was a graduate of BC Rain High School where she was a proud member of the marching band and a majorette. She attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Then she started a carrier in commercial insurance working for various Brokers and insurance carriers for over 25 years.
Vicki was an active volunteer in many ways as she loved helping others and animals. Her favorites were working Greek Fest with her Aunts and Cousins, stocking food pantries, working with the Friends of the Mobile Animal Shelter as well as being a Board Member, and truly her favorite was feeding the “critters” at the Environmental Studies Center. She was an avid walker, loved Kayaking, any activity on the beach, hummingbirds, butterflies, Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras ( in particular Joe Cain), and time with her family especially her German Shepherds.
Vicki fought hard in a brutal fight with cancer for 8 months. The family greatly appreciates the amazing love and help she received from the Doctors, Nurses, ladies at the front desk, and certainly all the ladies in the chemo lab at Southern Cancer Providence. Also cannot thank enough the “saints” with Springhill Hospice for their love and kindness.
There will be a Wake for Vicki at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street Tuesday October 3rd from 5pm - 8pm, with a service on Wednesday October 4th at 10 am with Father Pat Arensberg officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Environmental Studies Center, Attn Grace Phelps, 6101 Girby Road, Mobile AL 36693 or online at mcpsesc.com/donate
