3/29/1956 – 3/16/2021
Bill Armbrecht, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL departed this life on March 16, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Armbrecht, III and Jean Taylor Armbrecht. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Allie Grace Armbrecht; his sister, Katherine Armbrecht Zarzour; his brother, Alexander Paterson Armbrecht (Terri); his former wife, Susan Kight Armbrecht, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bill had a tremendous love of the water, so much so that he earned a living earlier in his life as a yacht captain. He also had a love of cooking, and founded The Brick Pit barbecue restaurant, which won several awards. He was featured at different times on cooking shows on both The Food Network and The Travel Channel and was also featured in several cooking magazines including Gourmet and Bon Appetit. In order to share his love of God, Bill had a section in The Brick Pit called “Amen Corner”, where many people gathered for fellowship and discussion.
When not working on the water or in his restaurant, he could often be found cooking for friends at his home, usually during Alabama football games, where he had a tendency to coach the team from his couch, shouting instructions to coaches and players alike. Bill loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, sharing that love with anyone who was with him.
There will be a memorial celebration of Bill’s life on Sunday April 11 at 2:00 pm at Dayspring Baptist Church, 2200 South Cody Road. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilots for Christ, 107 Airport Rd., Monroeville, AL 36460, or Prichard Preparatory School, 743 Mt. Sanai Ave, Mobile, AL 36612.
