Police Chief (Retired) William (Bill) M. Mingus, Sr., age 87 passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 30, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Lyndall Mingus and parents, Charles C. and Rita M. Mingus.
Chief Mingus honorably served his community for over 33 years with the Mobile Police Department. He worked in numerous divisions to include juvenile, traffic, CID, planning and ultimately retiring as Chief of Police. He graduated from the FBI Academy, Quantico, VA, was on the Mobile pistol team, served/lead on the riot squad and SWAT team. He received his degree in Criminology from the University of South Alabama.
Bill was also an active member of Corpus Christi parish and a member of the Mobile Senior Golf Association.
He is survived by his three sons, William Mingus, Jr. (Pamela), Gordon Mingus (Cindy) and Scott Mingus. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jennifer Mingus Bedgood (Ryan), Brian McClelland (Sara), William Mingus, III, Justin Mingus (Katie), Garrett Mingus (Gabrielle), Andrew Mingus, Rebecca Mingus and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
