Bay was born to Yancy Davis Lott and Sarah Hunter Lott on July 21st, 1939, in Mobile, Alabama. He attended parochial schools and McGill Institute and was an accomplished all-round athlete excelling in several sports. He attended The University of Alabama and was a prominent member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity He was a Letterman and Captain of the first University of Alabama swim team and was later inducted into The University of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He practiced law in Mobile for many years and was appointed Probate Court Judge and served several successful years before retiring from his post in 2021. He went on to earn The Alabama Bar Association’s 50-year service pin. Bay was a member of several of Mobile’s Mardi Gras societies. He was a talented and published writer who won National Awards for Poetry and Short Stories over the years.
He was mentor in his children’s many sports activities including baseball, basketball, football, softball, swimming, tennis, golf and many more. A volunteer youth and Little League Coach that impacted countless Mobile area children in a positive way, helping create fond memories and lots of fun while winning championships along the way.
He was the consummate entertainer. Bay loved his music, taught himself to play the guitar and several other instruments, he enjoyed singing and playing for family and friends, always the life of the party. He loved having people over at The Little Lagoon house in Gulf Shores, AL. Bay loved to tell stories and had a legendary sense of humor, he could hold court for hours. He enjoyed people’s company, and they enjoyed being with him. He loved to cook, he always had something delicious on the grill. He had the crab traps out and the bait well full. An avid outdoorsman and a passionate fisherman. Bay lived his life HIS way, he didn’t always conform but that is what drew people to him. He was a force to be reckoned with, and without a doubt, made an impact on everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bay is survived by a rather extensive family to include his wife of almost 40 years Jeannie Guerry Lott, and the children Yancy Davis Lott III (Sheree), Brian James Lott, Albert Hunter Lott (Janice), and Ashleigh Blaire Lott; his three grandchildren; Bayleigh Kay Lott, Ellie Marie Lott, and Yancy Davis Lott V; his brother Thomas Shannon Lott (Linda) ; his sister Annette Lott Dukes, and his sister Tiny Lott McPhillips (Manning). Bay was predeceased by his sister Sally Lott O’Neill and Lillis Lott Lewis.
