

Velma Jo (Huffman) Bucheger was born October 10, 1935 in Chillicothe, TX. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Pauline Huffman. After growing up in Vernon, TX, she graduated from Vernon High School in 1954.
She married Leonard J. Bucheger September 27, 1958 in Altus, OK. They have been happily married for 56 years. Together they have 6 children; Sherman (Renee), Amy Haus (Scott), Kurt (Monique), Kelley (Tina), Victoria Childers (David) and Joseph (Agnes). They have 26 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Velma is survived by her brother, Donald Huffman. She is preceded in death by her sister Betty Hammer and her grandson Ryan Bucheger.
In addition to raising six children, Mrs. Bucheger was a very active volunteer. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader when her girls were young. She was the President of the Tumbleweeds Garden Club of North Edwards, CA. She was the District Director of the Desert Empire Region of the California Garden Clubs. And she was instrumental in getting the Blue Star Memorial at the museum at Edwards AFB, CA. She was a member of Saint Edwards the Confessor Catholic Church and an avid supporter of the wounded Warrior Project and the Republican Party.
In their 56 years of marriage, Jo and Leonard, her husband, traveled the country living in many places including Texas, Indiana, Delaware, Ohio and California. They visited many more. Side by side they drove over a million miles of highway together; stopping to see every little thing this great country has to show them: sights such as the Grand Canyon and Canyon de Chelly, Fort Leavenworth, KS and Fort Huachuca, AZ, Fort Lockett, Campo, CA, Washington DC, Klamath Falls, OR, Key West, FL and Niagara Falls, NY.
Jo passed away 30 Jun 2051 at 1:40PM surrounded by her family.
