

Ed was born on Oct. 26, 1934 to Esther Mae Sloat and Anthony Petrillo in Peekskill, NY. He was the second youngest of 5 brothers growing up in the post-depression landscape of Peekskill. After graduating as salutatorian from Peekskill High School in 1952 he enrolled in the Air Force.
After a tour in the Air Force, he worked his way up the ranks at various companies until landing a job at IBM as an engineer, where he remained for 32 years until retirement. At IBM he met Karen Belcher and they wed in 1979 going on to have one child, Lori Petrillo. Edward is predeceased by his son from a previous marriage, Darren Petrillo, in 2002.
Ed was a very independent and enthusiastic problem solver, who had an incredible work ethic. He was awarded many patents at IBM and worked on one of the first computers to be created by IBM. He started working at a young age, selling fruit off a cart on the streets of Peekskill, shining shoes, delivering newspapers, and working in the local movie theatre. In the Military he coordinated GED training for new recruits, learned the art of de-salination, was in charge of rodent control for family housing. Ed was also passionate about learning and a was home repair enthusiast. He could often be found fixing nearly anything that broke or needed repair around the home.
Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and his legacy will be cherished. He is survived by his wife Karen Petrillo, daughter Lori Petrillo, granddaughter Emma Petrillo, and the family members of his predeceased brothers.
A memorial service to celebrate Edward Petrillo’s life will be held from 1 pm - 3pm on February 17, 2024, at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home.
