Born in Bronx, New York, he was the son of John and Josephine Serra. He graduated from City College of New York. He worked as an engineer at Bunker Ramo and Pitney Bowes where he designed hardware and telecommunications and received six patents.
John belonged to St. Jude parish. He was an avid Yankee fan, stayed active and loved being with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife Rita, his son Daniel Serra and his wife Bridget, his daughter Laurie Moretti and her husband Jim, and his granddaughters, Samantha and Hayley.
Friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, August 19 from 9:30-11:30 at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Funeral service to be celebrated at 12 noon at St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Interment to immediately follow at St. John's Cemetery, 500 Moose Hill Road, Monroe.
