Joe, as he was known to all his family and friends, was 82 years old.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Alice (Pat to all who know her), whom he loved with all his heart for almost 60 years. His daughter, Sharon Gilbert and her husband Norman; son Thomas and his fiancé Virginia Mitchell; and son Christopher and his wife Robin. Also, his grandchildren Heather Demorizi and her husband Kristopher; Eric Gilbert; Emma Slopnick and William Slopnick; his sister Arlene Gerry; nieces Susan Cholewinski Hamlin, Colleen Gerry Lepley; nephews Victor Cholewinski and Scott Slopnick.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Anna (Bednar) Slopnick and Joseph John Slopnick. Also, his sister Florence Cholewinski and her husband Hank and their son Wayne, his brother David Slopnick and nephew David Jr.
As a resident of Monroe for over 50 years, he was involved in many community activities. He spent many years coaching and managing the local Little League teams. He was also very active with the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.
Joe worked at Vitramon in Monroe for 40 years holding various positions in Quality Control Management and Customer Engineering Management. He loved sports—playing on various softball and basketball leagues over the years. He also loved music, especially jazz.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10am at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, 6948 Main Street in Trumbull CT 06611 with burial immediately following at St. John’s Cemetery, 500 Moose Hill Road, Monroe, CT 06468.
