Bob was born in Bridgeport on May 4, 1942, the only son of the late Robert and Anna (Czechowski) Hancox. He lived in the Stepney section of Monroe, attended school in Monroe, and graduated from the Mount Hermon School in Gill, Massachusetts, where he played football and baseball. After attending Coe College, he graduated from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, with a degree in Sociology.
Bob proudly served in the Army, rising to the rank of 1st Lt in the Corps of Engineers. He served as a Tactical Officer at Fort Belvoir in Alexandria, VA. He was awarded the National Defense Service Badge, as well as the Expert badge for Rifle. He also received a commendation for planning and executing the Regimental Christmas Party.
Bob was involved in the financial industry for most of his professional life, mostly involving the trading and management of commodity investments. He was tenacious in his study of, and his belief in, the value of referencing historical events as a means to compare to the present, and to help predict the future. After retirement, he served as a paraprofessional in the Wilton Public Schools.
Bob is survived by his sister, Susan Goodrich, of Oxford, CT; his son Robert (Nancy), of Monroe, CT; his son David (Elizabeth), of Wellington, FL; his son William (Jessica) of Swampscott, MA; grandchildren Robert, Nicholas, Kyle, Andrew, Willa, Collette, and Grant; his longtime partner Diana King, of Wilton, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bob was predeceased by his sister, Judith Ann Richardson.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, October 2, at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT, from 2PM to 5PM. Burial will be on Monday, October 3, at 11AM, at Stepney Cemetery, Pepper St, Monroe.
