After graduation from Richmond Hill High School, Richmond Hill, NY, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth on September 8, 1950. Sister's first assignment was as elementary school teacher as St. Mary's School in Worcester, MA. Sister's teaching career spanned 49 years and took her to schools in the states of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. She retired from the classroom in 2002 and worked part time as parish minister in Holy Trinity Parish, Utica, NY until illness necessitated her move to Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT. Sister Magdalen passed away peacefully on November 21, 2018.
Sister Magdalen is survived by her brother Sylvester and his wife Joyce Marek who reside in Florida; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Frances Smith, Wanda Heavey and Theresa Marek.
Visitation to take place Friday, November 23, 3-5 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, 1448 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 24th at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent. Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher Community Funeral Home have been entrusted with the arrangements.
