I met Douwe in roughly 1973  while hitchhiking. He picked me up and said he needed someone to drive a silage truck the next day. I ended up staying with him until he moved from the Sikes farm to his own place. 
He was my mentor and taught me to be a top notch dairy man. I shall remember him very fondly for the rest of my days. Rest in Peace dear friend.
